Geocaching

Our spring has been filled with treasure hunting. A kid-friendly gps has led to a new family hobby. Who knew there is a huge online community that stashes goodies in rural and urban sites all over the world?

The gps indicates where a treasure lies and gets you within a few feet. Some are obvious, some are not. The trinkets and gifts are not valuable, but the kids love sorting through the container deciding what they will take and what they will leave.

I love it because it involves technology, science, nature and treasure (arrgh matey). It is a family activity that we can do wherever we travel that doesn't cost money and doesn't involve food. There are very, very few of those types of activities.
