First Grade

Our lives have been so full lately that I really want to just jot down some of the significant (and not-so-significant but still valuable) things happening in Lucas' life these days so he can read this entry and recall this time. Ireland, turning 7, starting first grade ... exciting times!

* He informed me today that his first grade teacher, Ms. Lenoire, is his best friend - awww.

* He got in trouble yesterday for talking too much with Paynton. This meant he received a yellow "warning" apple on his chart rather than the "good" green apple. Paynton got a red "oh oh" apple so I warned him of the dangers of associating with "those" types :) Note - Lucas has received green apples every other day.

* Last week, Lucas was completely undone by the homework he brought home. (Don't get me started on how I feel about homework in the early grades, I'm trying to play nice here). He sobbed, he laid on the floor, he banged his head on the table. Two of the four nights he was simply unable to do it. Together, we figured out that we will now do the bulk of his homework at 6 or 6:30 am. He is a different boy about it since we instituted that schedule.

* I'm not sure he fully gets why we have delayed his 7th birthday party or why his celebrations are stretching out over several weeks. But, with our travels, the first week of school and two other birthday party invitations waiting for us when we got home, this is just the way it's all turning out. We had an "almost 7" party with Daddy in Ireland. We attended someone else's party on the actual day and included other fun adventures that day plus lots of presents. He took red velvet cake yesterday for his school treat as a way to celebrate there. Finally, he has invited friends to come over week after next for a party here.

As always, there are likely reams more moments, memories and history that I have overlooked here but Lucas is living a very full and vital life at the moment. I am so proud of him and his growth.
